willowsong tairawhiti
Willowsong Tairāwhiti is a not for profit organisation created in 2019 by a group of parents with the aim to grow a community of support for Steiner education in Tairāwhiti. We see Willowsong as an umbrella organisation which fundraises to support Steiner initiatives and education in Tairawhiti, be that a playgroup, teacher up-skilling or workshops. Over the last year our playgroup has moved from strength to strength. We now have an average of 30 children attending our weekly playgroup sessions which is now held in a licensed premises, the morning is guided by a beautiful Steiner teacher, weaving tikanga and Te Ao Māori into the morning. We believe his allows for a true Tairāwhiti Steiner experience.
Our dream is to one day find a way to begin a Steiner school and kindergarten in our region but we cannot do it alone (find out how you can help here). We are a group of committed parents hoping to offer our children an childhood full of magic and wonder.

What We've Achieved
Matariki Winter Lantern Festival ~ 4pm 10th July ~ Waiteata Park Gisborne. A light meal (feel free to bring a plate to share) will be provided from 4pm followed by a lantern walk through the woods.
A series of wonderful Winter Workshops have been organised for parents to learn more about bringing Steiner into the home. Check out the Events page for more information.
Our Harvest Picnic is being held on the 18th April at Waiteata Park, Gisborne from 12 noon. Bring a shared plate of your favourite Autumn snack and we will supply homemade soup and bread alongside a Waldorf story time and a few fun Autumn crafts. Koha welcome.
2021 and we are back! Playgroup is still running each Tuesday with a wonderful group of committed parents and children. We hope to see you there.
Our 2020 Christmas Fair is just days away and what a year it has been! After much soul searching amongst the committee members we decided that the Willowsong Fair is an important date on our calendar which we hope to continue year after year. We hope to see you there!
2019 we began our weekly Willowsong Playgroup which over the last year has grown from a just few families to over 25 families attending each week. The playgroup has also become certified and moved to a licensed premises with a Steiner teacher leading the session.
Each week we run a Craft evening which allows parents to learn skills which they can then introduce to their families and friends.
We hosted our first Steiner inspired Fair in November of 2019. It was a wonderful event and not only introduced Steiner to Gisborne Tiarāwhiti it also raised funds to continue growing our initiatives in 2020.
A small study group was begun which will also continue in 2021.
In 2019 Willowsong hosted a series of workshops and talks which were a wonderful introduction into Steiner education. We will continue a series of educational conversations in 2021
Most importantly we developed to grow a community and support towards Steiner education here in Tairāwhiti.
