Hot cross buns, hot cross buns
One a penny, two a penny
Hot cross buns

Today we had a lovely Easter celebration 

See below for our recipe 

Makes 16 , bake 220 for 20 mins

4 tsp yeast
1 1/4 cup warm water
2t sugar 
Combine and let sit until fluffy

In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients 
7 cups flour 
1 1/2 t salt
1/4 cup sugar 
3/4 cup sultanas
1/2 cup dates - optional 
1/2 cup crystallised peel - optional 
3 Tbsp cinnamon
3 Tbsp mixed spice

In a separate bowl combine 
2 cups warm milk
75g melted butter 
1 egg beaten

Combine all ingredients together to form a smooth dough, rest until doubled in size
Cut into 16 pieces, shape into balls , place on baking tray and let rise until almost double or 10 mins . 
Add crosses by making a paste with flour and water - 3 tbsps of flour, slowly mix in water until you have a thick paste, pipe on using a small plastic bag, cut a hole in one corner.

Bake buns
Once out of the oven glaze instantly, you can use jam, marmalade , honey or a sugar syrup 

Enjoy with plenty of butter!
